If you live where there is snow then full time 4 wheel drive is the way to go. It saved my butt more than a few times. Just a few weeks ago I was on dry pavement then all of a sudden hit a patch snow and ice going around 100 km/hour. 2 cars ahead of me spun and hit the guard railbits but my FJ kept it's composure and I just swerved around all the smashed plastic bits. If I had part time 4 wheel drive there is no way I could have locked the transfer case in time. My old Tacoma was part time 4 wheel drive and my new FJ is much more secure.
