We're looking at a camping trip later in the year and realize there's not a great amount of space in the back. There's four of us so folding the seats down isn't really an option.
Has anyone got a roof top carrier they're particularly pleased with and would recommend? Thule has a shorter, wider one that opens from the back that might be good (forget the name now!).
Anyway, thought it's worth asking!

I like thule products plus you can get the silver color that will match the FJ accents nicely. Enjoy your trip. oh and they lock which is always a good thing.

I have a Thule on my BMW X5, it has been really good. I actually have had it for a while I used to have it on my 4runner. the thing is at least 10 years old and still is in perfect shape, a rock knick or two on the front but i has stood up very well. actually a friend of mine forgot to fasten his down one time and hit the freeway right away and it flew off at about 100km/h and aside for a scratch or two it was FINE.. So I think the Thule is FJ worthy.

Just so I understand better, do you or don't you have the FJ roof rack?
Some people who have the rack (like me) are looking for MORE carrying capacity up top. I also have a light bar, and it turns out that the space in front of the FJ rack and the behind the light bar is a perfect fit for an "auto-backpack" solution like this one:
I got mine at Pep-Boys about 5 years ago and its perfect solution that works when you need it and folds up and gets put away when you don't. Its light, and weatherproof so you can throw suitcases etc in it.
Again, if you don't have a roof rack yet then you prolly have to start there. I like the FJ rack but there are other ones. The Gobi one is full length and looks nice.
