Me next! Me next! I guess FJeologist kinda gives it away... I'm a geologist... an engineering geologist to be exact. I grew up as an Army brat and lived all over, which I loved. My family used to go camping/backpacking every summer, wherever we lived, and I had to climb everything in sight... trees, rocks, you name it. I got totally hooked on the outdoors. That eventually led to a geology degree from Cal State Fresno, and lots of rock climbing. More recently, my rock climbing has turned to alpine mountaineering. I did a bit of skydiving in there, too. I went through 2 Jeep CJ-7's before I discovered an 88 Toyota 4x4 p/u, then a 98 Tacoma 4x4, and now an FJ. My job keeps me and my FJ on lots of construction/earthwork sites where I get to play in the mud a little. When not getting paid to solve engineering geologic problems or fix landslides, I FJ out and do a little geology for fun. Sometimes the mountain bike or the telescope gets tossed on top too. My 5-yr-old little tomboy (girl) loves our new FJ, as does our big white dog, Jack. Our "playground" is located on the western slope of California's Sierra Nevada mountains, about half way between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe, at about 3,500 ft (1,060 m) elevation. For you hard core 4x4 folks, that's a 45 minute drive from the west end of the Rubicon Trail. Life is good! Next...

FJeologist, I have only had one class in geology. I remember that class well. It was more of a "landforms" type class. I really enjoyed it and learned plenty about our Earth. I can see where the FJ comes in handy for your type of work. I love the idea of bringing the scope along. tog

Don't stop there... you have got to go down to Moab, UT and do some rock crawling. You may have to bring your own mud.
