I just bought my FJ and love it, I have been wondering about the fuel and running the 87 instead of 91, I read the manual and saw that it can take it, but wondered if there were any prolonged effects of lower grade fuel?

I know in the aviation world lower grade fuel can cause detonation, or pre-ignition if you use lower that recommended fuel.
Thanks again from ICT

Yeah... this is a car. So nothing will really happen. You'll experience some power loss.. but minimally noticeable. I always run premium, I ran 83 once and got terrible gas mileage. But I don't remember if I did a lot of highway driving. On highways I've noticed the mpg drops by about 3 if traveling for a while over 80mph.

ive noticed for years , that simply put , if you use premium fuel your car or truck or whatever seems to go farther on a tank then if using regular,so you pay more for the goodstuff at the pump but go farther , so little difrence i would say in result

I've been tracking the difference between 87 and 93 for the last month. I drive 400 miles per week with 80/20 highway (65mph) and city. I run two tanks of 87 and two of premium. My mileage is between 19.27 and 19.35 for either 87 or 93. I think I notice some slight power reduction with 87 but can not say for sure. I've had no pinging or detonation.

I agree, I've tried both grades and found VERY minimal changes between the two. Save your $ and run 87
