Is it normal to have a smell after using your rear locker?

Another question for you guys. I have the full time 4-wheel drive model, and i was reading in the manual that until the little rear locker light stops blinking and stays lit the locker is not engaged. So is it safe to assume that when the light is blinking that the locker is not engaged?
I know it sounds bad but i have been supper busy and never taken the time to fully understand all the detailed workings of the locker. Long story short, I was on a gravel road and was gonna do a donut and threw the locker on cause i thought it would make the end swing out better, the light came on and only blinked, it never stayed solid, i was in H at the time. I literally had the locker button on for maby 5-10 seconds then clicked it off. But like i said the light never stayed solid indicating that it was never engaged. Then i went across the street to staples and it just smelled really bad. Went did my shopping, went home and it didnt smell anything. Then today i was in the drive through i thought i might smell something faint or maby it was just me being paranoid. I just wanted to get you all's expert advice and make sure i didnt creat any problems. I dont think i did but please any feedback is much appreciated!

Pretty sure the rear dif lock and A-trac system only work in 4-Low, not in 4-High. I have used both features (sometimes together) only in 4-Low; haven't tried in 4-High.

Dave The rear locker and a-trac will only work in low gear. If the light is blinking it mean you have the locker button depressed. That doesnt mean it will ever go into lock mode when you arent in 4 low . Just press the button till the rear locker light quits blinking. There are hacks out there to enable rear locker at any time but you could void your warranty.
