I've been towing an enclosed m/c trailer for the past couple months, containing 1 or 2 Harleys, up, over and through the Rocky Mtns here in Montana. Total wt is around 2600 lbs.
My FJ is an auto 4x4. The FJ tows almost as well with this relatively light weight as my last vehicle, a Dodge Ram 4X4 w/a Hemi! No complaints on the towing performance. Would like a way to fold out the mirrors so I can see around the trailer, though.

I am sorry to hear that your FJ did not tow well. I have towed a 26 foot trailer, about 3800lbs around, and aside from the gas mileage, it was able to cross the mountains along I68 in WV nicely! I towed my Model A around as well and it was almost like nothing was behind me!

I have to say that the FJ is much better than I anticpated.. I have a 14-foot travel trailer that I usually pull with a half ton Suburban with a 350. I expected the FJ to be a lot weaker on the mountain passes - Not so. I have the 6 speed Manual tranny and the extra gears help very nicely over passes at 9000 feet.

i towed a trailer with load at around 1100 lbs after ripping it out of 2 feet of mud. pulled it out in four high and hauled 25 miles with no problems. I am very pleased with the fj towing. My 01 chevy half ton would have that trailer all over the road! The chevy does not handle braking with a load behind it well at all. The fj was all smooth sailing.
