Hey all, I am planning to put at least a 4 4 OHM sub woofers and 2 rear pillar speakers in the back of the FJ's Trunk.
Now, first would you recommend this at all? If not, what other configurations would work well if i want to put an subwoofer on each side?

Second, if it is possible, how many Amps would I need if i want to hook them all together?

Third, What are some recommendations for some 4 OHM Subs, rear pillar speakers, and Amps?

Thank you very much!http://www.fjcruiserowners.com/components/com_joomlaboard/emoticons/laughing.png

Although I'm not an engineer. If your looking for big bass, look for speakers with the higest decible rating. Not the maximum amount of wattage. A higher decible rating is a more efficient speaker, thus it takes less wattage to achieve maximum volume at the lowest amount of distortion. This is a crude example. A Db rating is a measure of sound pressure at 1 watt of power 1 meter away from the speaker. A speaker rated at say 90 Db will produce 90 db of sound pressure (volume) with 1 watt of power 1 meter away from the speaker with very little harmonic distortion. To make that speaker produce it's maximum volume which lets say for arguemants sake is 100 db. You would have to use an exponentionally greater amount of power. Lets say 500W. Which will cause distortion. The Idea is to get a speaker that is rated at or above 100 Db. It will use a smaller amp and still achieve massive amounts of volume. Anything that is pumping out over 110 Db of sound pressure is very loud, especially in an enclosed space. Upwards of 120 will cause permanent hearing loss within a only a few minutes. I've been in a room where the sound was at 121 db measured with a db meter. It hurt after only a few seconds. Trust me on that. At over 130 db you will experience serious permanent hearing loss possibly leading to deafness. I'm not a doctor or anything like that but if you do a little research you will find that those numbers I'm using are probably very close to published numbers.

Good luck.

if your looking to add pillar mount speakers i would suggest the use of bass blockers since the speakers are so small that fit into the factory openings . the bass tubes that are powerd work well in the rear location above the wheel wells . there is also a bazooka tube made for the fj that bolts up to the factory hooks built into the side walls in the rear area of th fj as far as amping the pillar mount speakers that all depends on the out put level of the speaker . a dual out put amp for left and right application of rear speakers can be used to amplify these 2 speakers just make sure to match the amp with the speakers I would suggest a company like crutchfield for available amps and speaker info to make comparisons . also the factory speaker wiring is not large enough to handel the power of an amplified system so you will need to run a desent guage wire from the amp to the speakers

Hmm, so from the decibel explanation you gave me, it doesn't sound too smart to add 4 subs (2 on each side). So now this changes my whole idea.

So now I want to put 1 4 OHM Subwoofer on each side. Do you think if It will sound good if i put 2 Alpine Subs?

Now if I want 1 OHM Sub on each side, will that still require 2 amps?

you will most likely want 2 One ohm stable amps one hooked to each sub, you will Need a capacitor between the power and the amps and use heavy wiring or its like drinking a thick smoothy through a juicebox straw. Best advice man talk to a car audio store, especially about what classification of amp to use. As for what choosing a sub with the most Bass Make sure you pay attention to the frequency it will hit the lower the frequency the deeper the base this is indicated by (XXhz-XXkhz) In all honestey it can all get really complicated Find a good shop or shops and get as much info as you can on setups the sky is the limit but so is the wallet.
Cheers!
