I bought my FJ last April. It was one of the first on the road, as I ordered one after seeing it at the D.C. auto show. After 2500 miles my FJ began vibrating and the check engine and traction control lights showed on the dash. This occurred at a speed in excess on 50MPH. I pulled over, turned the ignition off and restarted the vehicle. It drove fine for 2 weeks and the incident repeated. I stopped at a dealer (while traveling) who was 50 miles from home. They got misfire codes off the computer, said for the sake of time, it's probably bad gas and put alcohol in my tank. The FJ drove fine again, but I took it to my dealer when I returned from my trip. They could not duplicate the problem and returned the FJ. The problem duplicated itself that day (as usual as soon as I left the dealer). I returned to the dealer, and they had my FJ for 2 weeks. Changed wiring harnesses, spark plugs, injectors, and dropped the gas tank to check for bad fuel. They again returned the vehicle, without stating that it was fixed. They did say the gas tank was clean. My FJ drove fine for 6-7 weeks and it just duplicated the problem this week....twice!!It is now at the dealer again. I told them that I contacted Toyota, to invoke the Lemon LAW. Perhaps this was a mistake on my part, as now they dropped the tank again, this time claiming I have "bad gas."Too coincidental for my liking...
ANYWAY......

HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM??? If not...be wary!! I will keep this site updated on the upcoming events concerning my problem..

I have always wondered how one would assume bad gas? I have seen water in gas, sugar in gas (according to TV's Myth Busters this will not hurt anything but I've seen different), rusty, gummed up tanks but without a lab test, how do you call it bad gas and even then how do you know, throw it on fire to see if it will burn?

I would ask several things:
Do you always buy your gas at the same station?
If not do you have this problem after buying at a certain station?
If yes is the answer to one of these questions, go have a talk with the owner of the station and see if he has been getting any other complaints. He probably won't tell you up front but may look into it behind the scenes then buy your gas somewhere else and see if it makes a difference.
Are you running super or the cheep stuff?
The term bad gas usually means you are getting gas that may have some water. Usually the filter will separate as much as it can until it gets overloaded. If you have the problem again, ask to be present when they remove the filter and have them pour the gas from the filter on a clean dry surface. Gas will fan out and if water is present it will bead up in the wet area of the gas like water on wax. No beading = no water, look for something else, I would say gas not the problem.

As for alcohol in the tank, most people think you can run to the local store and buy rubbing alcohol and pour it in. Most rubbing alcohol is 30% water so not a good idea unless you can find it in 99.9% pure alcohol.
I like BG Products for my fuel and injection maintenance. There 44K works excellent on cleaning injectors and the dry gas might help if you do in deed have a moisture problem. These products are more expensive and most stores don't have them but dollar for dollar I think well worth the $. Google BG Products and check there stuff out. and try to locate a dealer. They have a wide line of products, might find other stuff you can use. If you can't locate a dealer, let me know and I will ask the guy I get my stuff from how you can find someone in your area.
As far as the Lemon Law, not sure how it works in your state, so Google that too but threatening the dealer won't work most of the time, just pisses them off. Have your attorney write a letter, gets better response and send the letter on up the chain... Be sure you have everything you have done to the vehicle documented.
Good luck! .

This may sound dumb but did anyone check the gas cap, not just to see if it's tight, but to see if it vents ok or whatever it's supposed to do?

Yes, the gas cap. If it doesn't seal right, it will show error codes, and run like crap. Get a new cap anyway, and see if that makes a diffrence.
PS, mine runs great.
