On a related subject, I left the gas cap off yesterday after I filled it up - just noticed it today. (Must have been distracted by my 10' pipe). When I started it up today, I noticed that the engine check light is now on. Is this something that should turn itself off or should I do something to correct my slippage.
<I promise I won't do it again!>

The light should go out, once the problem is fixed. (Put the cap back on). The computer will store a trouble code until the next time you disconnect the battery.

You have set an EVAP code. The light should go out after a series of restarts. I'm not sure how many it will take. The light will go out but there will be a code stored in the computer memory. Most ODB II scanners don't have 07 programs on them yet although the 06 may clear out the code so a trip down to the local shop may or may not be worth while and may cost you depending on the shop. Autozone parts stores usually have a scanner that can clear the codes but again the 07 programing... Unhooking the battery will work but you loose programed radio stations and some drivability memory functions but they will relearn on there own as you drive so it is not a problem, so you have a choice of how you deal with it.
Good luck

I decided to unhook the battery cable to clear the warning lights. Thought I'd have to reprogram the FJammer colors, but they actually still are set. Seems like my compass is flashing and might need resetting though. Guess it means driving around in circles in a parking lot. Time to put my 10' pipe back in for that fun.

I had a caddy that gave us a heck of a time when the seal on the gas cap lost its ability to keep vacuum pressure in the tank. The car would have warning lights everywhere and just stop running. This sounds suspiciously similar to me. I will be careful to keep the cap on the gas tank. thanks for the heads up.
