Like you, I have the standard 6-speaker stereo and am interested in adding 2 speakers in the rear pillars for a little more sound for the backseat occupants. I contacted Crutchfield today and they told me they don't have a speaker that will fit the rear pillar area. They told me that those speakers are an odd size and would require a bracket. I am hoping that someone who purchased an FJ with the standard 6-speaker stereo and installed 2 rear pillar speakers could comment on: 1) was the wiring connected to the stereo? 2) what speakers did you install? 3) did you use any additional brackets?

Just hoping someone has already blazed a path here and would be willing to share their experience! Thanks!

Hi,
I found the JL's on Ebay for 35.00 a pair, that's half of the list price. I put a pair in the dash as well.It took about an hour per pair to modify the factory brackets and complete the install.Unbelievable difference.

Hi,
I looked on one of the rear speaker covers and the number I found is 86279-35020,GRILLE,SPEAKER,LH. Hope that helps.

I just installed 4" JL Audio speakers in the back of my FJ. I have the factory 6 speakers but upgraded my deck to a pioneer. I had to cut holes in the factory plastic pieces and do a surface mount. I did not get the speaker adapters but would highly recommend it. I had no play on the wires to splic or anything. The surface mount came out OK, will have to get 3M tape to help the tops hold into place due to the extra weight. I have one question The driver side rear panel wires were combined with 3 other wires and I am curious what they went to, 2 white w/black stripe thicker ones and one white w/brown stripe skinnier one. Any one have any ideas?

Look on E-Bay. I have seen them listed. The covers were around $50.
