Hi guys, prospective FJ buyer with a question. I can't seem to find a consistent answer to this question. Can you or Can you not move the Top Crossbar on the Roof Rack forward? Went to Toyota.com and did an on-line chat with a "specialist" and was told that all the crossbars can be moved. However, it seems like everywhere else I'm getting the opposite. I need a definitive yes or no because I've got a 17' canoe which is the only reason I need a roof rack in the first place. Thanks for your answers in advance.

Yes they move. You can also take them off or move them from the top rails to the bottom.

It will move forward, but not that much. You can get it
up to the middle of the rear doors. I saw a picture on the net once of an FJ with a canoe on top. The person used a strap in the front as a cross bar. Then again....
You can take it in water almost half way up the doors, so maybe you won't need a boat?

Why won't it go any further up than that? That kinda confuses me. Do the rails get narrower as you move forward?
I'd like to move the thing up to near the front of the roof.

The side bars of the rack actually get wider slightly towards the front of the roof. They have a gentle curve to
them. ARB makes a nice rack if you buy an FJ without a factory rig.
