Toyota FJ Cruiser vs. Nissan Xterra
Toyota FJ Cruiser Tops Nissan Xterra in Edmunds.com Inside Line Midsize Four-Wheel-Drive Comparison Test SANTA MONICA, Calif.--June 7, 2006--Inside Line, Edmunds' high-speed online car magazine, today announced that the Toyota FJ Cruiser won its latest comparison test of off-road midsize SUVs, which is described in full at 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser vs. 2006 Nissan Xterra HERE. The Edmunds editorial team compared two off-road SUVs that provide tremendous performance with powerful horsepower and torque for precision city and highway driving: the Nissan Xterra and Toyota FJ Cruiser The tested Nissan Xterra has an MSRP of $29,115 and is equipped with a standard 4.0-liter, six-cylinder engine, five-speed automatic transmission with 265-horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque. The Edmunds.com True Market Value(R) (TMV(R)) price of this Xterra model is currently $27,370. The tested Toyota FJ Cruiser has a sticker price of $29,883, including a five-speed automatic transmission and a 4.0-liter, six-cylinder engine, with 239 horsepower and 278 pound-feet torque. This FJ Cruiser currently has a TMV(R) of $29,883. "The FJ Cruiser was exactly what it claimed to be: the most distinctive and capable 4x4 in the Toyota lineup," recalled Senior Road Test Editor Josh Jacquot. "It's competitively priced, gets better fuel economy than the Xterra, and has better interior design and materials -- all of which give it an edge." Jacquot also notes, "Nissan offers an exceptionally versatile vehicle in the Xterra. It's quick, powerful, convenient and capable. And if the Toyota FJ Cruiser wasn't equal or better in most of those areas, the Xterra would still rule the roost of midsize SUVs."
